Steven K. Brumer practices primarily in the areas of family law, consumer bankruptcy, trusts and estates, and litigation of these matters.
Prior to becoming affiliated with Fleischer & Ravreby, he served as general counsel to various real estate and mortgage entities including Windsor Capital Mortgage Corporation, the National Academy of Independent Brokers, and Real Estate Consulting Group.
Steven is one of the few attorneys who has earned a specialized post-graduate degree, the Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in taxation. Steven earned his LL.M. from the University of San Diego. This course of study focuses on business and personal tax planning, and analysis and litigation, and has provided him with a wealth of knowledge that has proven useful in countless family law and bankruptcy matters. Tax issues are present in almost every family law and bankruptcy matter. Having this additional education is an asset to Steven’s practice and to the firm.
“There are hundreds, possibly thousands of attorneys to choose from and many will do an excellent job,” says Brumer. “With such important decisions to make, a client needs someone she will want to work with and whom she trusts and respects. Only an experienced attorney with knowledge of the law and the way your jurisdiction is handling certain issues is in the right position to counsel and guide you along.”
A New York City native, Brumer graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999 and began practicing in Miami, Florida in that year. In 2001, he earned his LL.M. degree in taxation and obtained his license to practice law in California. Brumer also holds licenses to practice before various federal courts in California and Florida, as well as the United States Tax Court. Brumer is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Family Law sections.
An avid road cyclist, Steven participates in numerous charity and century rides each year. Having been diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes (formerly known as “Juvenile Diabetes”) while in law school, he serves the San Diego community as a mentor for children and teens living with diabetes. He resides in San Diego with his wife (a pediatric nurse), their two children, and the family’s two dogs: a yellow Labrador and a Weimaraner.
